BellaNapoli - stories of work, passion and respect, latest book by my friend Vincent Moretti was presented a few days ago at the Feltrinelli. Time has passed, but I had promised myself to write, so here we are. To write in an informal way, that's because I have already formally written here.
The book is very nice. For those who still had not read a book by Moretti - he does not know yet if it's good sociologist or a writer - his writing is a very good light, I suggest you buy BellaNapoli, read it, and then buy another copy to give it away. Do not misunderstand the term lightly , please. The issue is complicated. When I invited some 'people on Facebook for the event, someone commented saying that "Labor and Naples" is an oxymoron. Maybe it is.
In the book are true stories. Different career paths, winding and real. My generation has a controversial relationship with the world of work, and it is difficult to explain everything in a post, but to summarize broadly, skipping several steps, I think my generation (the generation to which I belong, far be it from me, get me out of this lecture) to end up more confused and careerism on . I fear, in short, that even those who seem to think correctly, about the work, the future, working to create a street fair, is already poisoned by the climate of the last sixteen years. In the book reminded me of things I believed when I was younger, when I imagined for a whole afternoon that I would grow up a butcher or a plumber. But that's another story.
Another important point is that the presentations of books Vincenzo Moretti's a nice atmosphere. And 'certainly due to the themes of the books presented, but not limited to the fact that anyone who decides to come to the presentations, knows that to continue to discuss important things like friendship, the story's history with the small and large S, labor, justice, trustworthiness, is not useless. And perhaps, still talking together, sooner or later something happens. It is all there, journalists, students, sociologists, writers, trade unionists, businessmen, experts in materials difficult to pronounce, musicians, and discussion. And I love this thing.
